An awesome martial arts school. My kids love it. They are learning loads and having fun at the same time. My husband and I attend the adult classes too. A great family orientated approach. Brilliant instructors and a great community spirit.

After 20 years of sitting at a computer I realised it was time to do something about it and get active. Tried a few different things... Gym, swimming, running but could never stick anything for long. Did a lot of searching and came across KSW Dunfermline. YouTube'd Kuk Sool Won to death (as all is computer geeks do) and loved the look of it. Decided to give it a go, a free lesson and a dedicated White belt class, had nothing to lose. That was almost 6 months ago and I have loved every minute of it since. The club and all of its members are friendly, welcoming and helpful. I have made a lot of friends and feel much fitter / healthier than I did. I would recommend Kuk Sool Won Dunfermline to anyone. Whether you are seven or seventy, there is a place for you at the club and you will be made to feel welcome as soon as you walk through the door.

A great martial arts club with something for everyone. The club is very friendly and very welcoming, the classes are challenging yet allow you to progress at your own speed and instructors are excellent. A fab club and awesome martial art!

When I was told by my sons school they couldn’t do anything about him getting thrown to the ground and kicked in the face, I decided we (my husband and i) needed to do something so he could protect himself from that happening again. My friends son had not long started Kuk Sool and she recommended it to me. It took us four weeks of sitting outside to get him to even walk in the door. But he did and the instructors could not have done more to be encouraging and supportive to him.

Little brother started too, our reasoning for him was different - a kid full of energy that couldn’t literally sit still and needed a bit of focus.

Fast forward to today, we now have two black belts in the family and kids who understand respect, discipline and how hard work pays off. Competing at Scottish and UK tournaments have become great days out with friends and the club has a great family friendly atmosphere and organises social events to include everyone.

SBN Craig and PSBN Tammy have built a great school and their infectious enthusiasm is contagious.

I always wanted to try a martial art, but the training environment for some disciplines are so intimidating and really put me off.

I seen that Kuk Sool was different and a family martial art so decided to give it a go.

My apprehension was quickly overcome by the warm welcome I received from the amazing students before my first class, I felt such a part of the team after receiving my uniform on my first day.

SBN Craig and PSBN Tammy are outstanding instructors who have a patient, friendly and technical approach to training. If you are anxious about starting, don’t be. Come along and be welcomed like I did.

Best thing I’ve done! Walked through the doors into a hiit session followed by a thorough introduction to initial moves and breakfalls. It was the humour and welcoming atmosphere that made me return. I’ve never looked back! This dojang is well run with a strong focus on respect, commitment and teamwork. All of which blend into everyday life. SBN Craig and PSBN Tammy run a tight ship with a fab Kuk Sool family on board.

Routines – Shifting Into A New Normal

The recent closures of schools and businesses are widespread and have led to major disruptions in the daily routines of families. Children are trying to adjust to doing school at home and parents are now trying to balance their new work from home life with their role as teacher to their children. To cope, it’s important for families to implement daily routines that incorporate school and work along with family time and hobbies.

Humans are creatures of habit and when our everyday lives are disturbed, we become anxious. For children, this anxiety often leads to behavior problems which can create power struggles and difficulty completing schoolwork. To help ease these challenges, implementing routines will create a better balance and help parents manage expectations and stick to them. By doing this, children will have a greater sense of security and will be more likely to cooperate.

Since we are all faced with unchartered territory, it can be stressful to even think about implementing a new routine. But if we use this time as an opportunity for growth, executing a new routine will be easier. For children, this time can help them learn more self-discipline and self-control. With a consistent daily routine and consistent daily expectations in place, children can also begin to adopt these new constructive habits, which are life skills much needed today.

It’s important to remember, however, that routines should have time scheduled for regular breaks. When children are at school, they are not doing academic work for 7 hours straight. They have time for recess, lunch, change of classes, physical education, music, art, etc. There is also a time that the school day ends so it’s important to make sure this time is established as well. By doing this, children learn to look forward to things and are more likely to adhere to the routines put in place.

The class routine of our martial arts program was developed with this information in mind. The sequence of class each day is the same: warm-up, mat chat, drills, syllabus, cool-down, games. This procedure helps children know what to expect each class and gives them something fun to look forward to. A routine created in this way helps boosts creativity and learning.

The uncertainty of when things will go back to “normal” is stressful. Implementing new routines may seem difficult at first but will ultimately help everyone feel more at ease. As this is done, we must be patient with each other and ourselves. Navigating through each day, now, is a new experience for everyone and we all deserve grace. Focusing on the new and improved behaviors that will come out of this experience will help us all keep moving forward 🙂
